About this facility
A glass recycling facility takes bottles, jars and in some cases flat or industrial glass and processes it into cullet — crushed, cleaned glass sorted by color that bottle makers, fiberglass plants and construction-material producers use in place of raw sand and soda ash. Material arrives from MRFs, municipal drop-off programs, bars and restaurants, and bottle-deposit systems. Ceramics, cookware and light bulbs melt at different temperatures and are typically refused or handled separately; flat glass is accepted only at some sites. Most of these plants work with commercial suppliers, but many municipalities use them for color-sorted drop-off collections. Hours, fees and accepted materials vary — call ahead to confirm what glass is accepted, whether it must be color-sorted and whether public drop-off is available.
